Last night, during KISS-FM’s concert at US Airways Center in Phoenix, rapper Kanye West stopped his onstage performance to vent about receiving two Grammy nods for his “Yeezus” album and “New Slaves” track.
According to an Instagram video (captured by KISS-FM), Mr. West said that “‘Yeezus’ is the top one or two album on every single list. But only gets two nominations from the Grammys. What are they trying to say?”
West’s latest LP is nominated for Best Rap Album, and his song “New Slaves” is up for Best Rap Song at the 56th Grammys, set for January 26th in Los Angeles.
“If I don’t win Album of the Year, I’m gonna really have a problem with that,” West said before the nominations were announced in 2005. He’s now declared war if he doesn’t leave with a Grammy for either one of his projects.
According to Rollinstone, West is currently at work on the follow-up to Yeezus, saying last week that his next album will consist of eight songs. The rapper is said to be working with Rick Rubin and Q-Tip on the project.
The rapper responded to the female fan who asked him to “take off his creepy-ass mask” with: “You can see my face on the Internet every motherfucking day,” Kanye retorted. “I came here, I open up a mountain…and you tryin’ to tell me how to give you my art.”
